What is Project Newsstand? We are compiling a FREE and user-friendly collection of newspaper primary sources for teachers to help their students make the grade in Civics. For student learning, the benefits are TWOFOLD. Educators have access to fair use primary source images for their slide shows and virtual learning. For a generation of learners who have grown up with visuals, it is up to educators to create engaging media for their students. Moreover, the primary source images are priceless when creating Document Based Questions (DBQs) or helping students with National History Day (also known as History Fair). We are scouring newspapers.com for the best images to share with educators. The aim of Project Newsstand is to help us offset the cost of subscribing to newspapers.com so we can continually add to our online information.

We remember those days when computers were a novelty in junior high school and we spent our free time playing Wheel of Fortune after we completed our assignments, right? Well, without further dating ourselves, here is a free resource to help your students check their understanding of the legislative branch of government while spinning the wheel for fun. Yes, learning can be fun and engaging. Let us do the work for you!
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? The classroom version of this game show can help students to make the grade in civics and law studies. This teacher-created, standard-based game checks for student understanding of civics benchmark SS.7.C.2.4. We have a Quia subscription that allows us to create interactive activities that allow teachers and families the freedom to have one less thing on their plates. QUIA RAGS TO RICHES: RIGHTS OF CITIZENS One challenge that we encounter in creating interactive student technology is either finding free public domain photos or paying exorbitant fees for the rights from stock photo companies. We have affordable stock photos that you can use in presentations and lessons on Twenty20. We uploaded as many pictures as we could from our travels to sites that are relevant to civics instruction and learning. There is a handful of photos for those who are looking for primary sources related to the Bush v. Gore Supreme Court decision.
Help your students make the grade by developing their word power! Civics curriculum includes a myriad of words that are vital to learning but are complex for the average citizen of voting age. We have developed and are developing standard-based and rigorous Quizlet sets to share with the public for use in the classroom or at home - or on one's device via the Quizlet app. This platform is as easy to access via a smart screen for interactive practice or can be used for teacher-led instruction with individuals or small groups. Please share this link and please give to our tip jar to help support our work. Thank you!
When you make a tax-deductible contribution of up to $300 to our 501(c)(3) organization, Friends at Mayport for Education, you will be helping us develop curriculum for the 2021-2022 school year. Your help is necessary because current budgets do not afford teachers time to create, develop, and purchase the necessary curriculum for our students to make the grade. We work to share our resources to ensure that our lessons, activities, and assessments are readily available while sustaining our ongoing work. Please share this with your friends and local businesses. Thank you for your support!
